CVA Business: CVA AGM - will be held on 25th July 2005 at 9.00pm at Pioneer Stadium
CVA are currently discussing options for 2006 season’s finals night. They are considering
changing the last night to a Sunday afternoon followed by holding a prize giving at a
venue like Robbies Barrington Upstairs Bar with food and pool provided. The Hornby Club
committee members at our last committee meeting liked the idea. If you have any ideas please
let Nicola or Sheri know so we can pass them onto CVA.
CVA has a Strategic Plan on their website for everyone to have a look at and provide
feedback to CVA. We have also emailed copies to all the club players we have email
addresses for. So check it out and let Nicola or Sheri know your comments.
Women’s Gold Team Report:
The team is having a great season so far with the
highlights being the tournament win in Christchurch. Counting wins over all teams and
especially the final against Scorps (3-1). The Dunedin extended tournament is in progress
and we should get a second place in this if we manage to beat NZIS, which we have done 5
times this season. The Blenheim tournament has just been and without our full strength
team we adjusted things and won 4 out of 5 matches. Vs Vikings 3-0, vs Nelson 3-1, vs
Blenheim 1-3, vs NZIS 3-2 vs Scorps 3-2. This gave us a second placing in a count back
of sets with NZIS, much to their delight and a bonus of food for all when we beat
Scorps to give NZIS the first placing. Both Sunday games were exciting challenges with
all the girls playing really well. The fight back against NZIS after being 2-0 down
was superb, especially the 5th set being up 14 0 1 and then winning 15 -3. These results
maintain our placing as first in the Southern League.
Kat and Flo had particularly good weekends of volleyball in Blenheim. Kat showed her
skills in back court defence and really rose to the occasion picking up heaps of big hits
from the opposition that were cm's off the floor. Flo was consistently passing accurately
and spiking winners in all areas of the court. A big “WELL DONE” to all players, it
was a most enjoyable weekend of volleyball with all players contributing to a successful
tournament.
Good luck to Peate who is leaving us soon to do her OE. Travelling and working on Cruise
Liner is her plan. Don’t go for too long, as your volleyball potential has not been
fully utilized as yet. Well done to Zar who travelled to Australia as a representative
in the South Island Secondary Schools team. She was also selected in the New Zealand
team with one other South Islander and they managed to give the Aussies a good pasting.
Nationals are only 5 weeks away and we now need to get working to reach our potential.
So don’t be late for practice or games. Enna get a better watch.
Our women’s Blue team needs a congratulatory comment. In tough competition the team
continues to be there every Monday and are improving with every game. Practices have
certainly been the better with the B team contributing. Mika continues to be the
reliable coach and mentor for these girls. Well Done.
The Gold team continues to dominate the local competition being unbeaten so far. We look
forward to completing the season in this way and getting our hands on the trophy.
Maybe a chance to get the National one as well.
- Paul Hoffman
Club Uniforms and Gear:
The club committee has decided to establish life memberships and
is proposing that the following be accepted by the club at the AGM.
We are currently running a uniform amnesty. If anyone in the club can locate and return
shirts or shorts for sets of uniform we are currently using we will give $5 towards subs
or travel to Nationals.
Remember: Please return all your playing gear to your coach or team organiser
on the last night of competition and return it to Sheri or Nicola. Yes we want it back dirty.
Thanks!
Diary:
Please check the Bulletin Board for upcoming events.
President's Report:
We have had a very busy season this year with two additional
women’s teams joining the club. It was most unexpected to have so many show up for
trials but also great to see. We have always been a club that has tried to have a place
for everyone and I hope the club will continue to do so. We also have two men’s teams and
are planning to select a combined team to attend Nationals with the coach Alan Asomua
and manager Justin Lambert. We need to work on how we can provide better support for
our all our teams.
This will be my final year with the club, I am finding it too hard to fit in the
responsibilities of parenting with playing and administering volleyball to the level that
I have become involved. So it is time that more players stepped up to take a part in
running the club.
Included in this newsletter is a list of all positions and responsibilities that the
club committee is responsible for. Please check them out. If everyone does a bit then
it is not hard work.
Finally good luck to the teams attending Nationals, I certainly look forward to hearing
the results.
- Sheri
